10K Sponsored swim

It has been about 15 years since I swam properly, other than splashing about on a Saturday with my two young daughters, until 2012, when I started open water swimming with friends. Initially, it was a shock to the system as you are out in the wilds in the middle of a lake. However, it feels great, as it is the only time I feel like most other people. I forgot to say I have MS and have sensory problems in my legs and arms, so therefore struggle with balance and tiredness!

In 2016 I heard about a local charity, The Neuro Drop In Centre, and was both impressed and moved by the story from Sharon Jackson, who has built it up from nothing. Support for this illness and many others is often overlooked, as treatment for them is more at the forefront. However it is such an important part, not only for people who have the illness, but also the families and carers affected too.

I took part in the 1 mile Great North Swim in 2012, however in 2013, inspired by all the hard work Sharon is putting into setting up this new charity, I decided to push myself and completed a 10k swim around Buttermere and raised over £500 in sponsorship for this well deserving charity. I managed a very respectable time of 3 hrs 16 min and I would like to thank family, friends, clients and St. James's Place for all of your support.

The St. James's Place Charitable Foundation also supported me in this challenge and has matched the sponsorship I received to help other well deserving charities.
